The Blitz- an Art project

As part of our topic on World War 2, we have looked at art work from the time of the Blitz and how the artists or photographers use shape, line, pattern, colour and texture to make an impact on the viewer.

Then we recreated some of the artwork, using watercolours...

...before making up our own, simpler design, using some ideas from the art we had seen. It needed to be simpler, to enable us to created it from fabric...

Here are some photos of the beginning of the fabric collage process...finished pieces later...

They are looking dramatic, which was part of the purpose and the stitching practice will be useful for a DT project later in the year.

We will blog some of the finished pieces when they are done.

First hand experience of World war 2

Today, Mr Mitchell, one of our Grandads, visited to answer our (many) questions about World War 2. he had lived in London at the time and was briefly evacuated to Essex. He told us some information about the war and some individual stories about himself and people he knew in those times. It was truly fascinating and we very much enjoyed listening. Thank you, Mr Mitchell.

Tag Rugby Tournament at Diss High School, 20th November 2017

Today we were invited to take part in a tag rugby tournament. We had three teams consisting of children from Kestrel and Tawny Owls classes. The children were extremely enthusiastic and, as always, very keen to make sure that everyone played fairly. There was great sportsmanship and the teams worked very hard - particularly the girls who, in the case of Bressingham 3, had to play every one of the 5 matches as there had to be two girls playing in every team.

Bressingham 3 came in second, Bressingham 1 came in fifth and Bressingham first came in 12th. 17 schools played in total from around the cluster.

In addition to the rugby games we had the added intrigue of the case of the missing coat (resolved before we left, thankfully) and many joyful reunions with past pupils of Bressingham Primary. A very happy afternoon spent by all.

Here are some of the photos of the action to give you a flavour of the afternoon - taken by members of Bressingham 3 (thank you!).

Autumn Fayre- raising money for FABs and for Year 6 Leavers

At the FABs Autumn Fayre, Year 6 ran stalls to raise money both for the Friends of the school (FABs) and towards their Year 6 Leavers' treat in the Summer. The children were really creative with their ideas, enjoyed working to prepare their stalls and games and were responsible in running them and then checking the money and clearing up afterwards. Thank you to Maisie's Mum for helping with the float and to Year 6 for being such good citizens- we are kind and helpful...

(The strange clothes were for a Spotastic Children in Need event!)

Well done to you all.
